Regional IT network and managed services provider NetStar claims that a network it has been selected to build for Swinburne University will be one of the largest IP networks in Australia.

The contract, which is valued at more than $A7 million, will overhaul communications infrastructure across the university’s six Victorian campuses. The network, based on Cisco equipment, will include more than 18,000 IP end-points and 4000 IP screen phones.

Richard Constantine, CIO of Swinburne, said the IP infrastructure will lead to annual savings of more than $A900,000. “We will also benefit from a more sophisticated communications platform, enhanced capabilities, and simp lified maintenance,” he claimed.
