Wesfarmers outsources networks

18 January 2006

The Australian

RURAL conglomerate Wesfarmers has signed a three-year agreement with Sydney services group NetStar to manage voice and data networks for its Industrial and Safety division.

NetStar will provide around-the-clock network support for the division, which operates the Blackwoods engineering brand, at 160 sites around Australia. Wesfarmers Industrial and Safety IT manager David Whitaker said outsourcing network management would allow the company to focus its own resources on other issues.

"With a large, diverse infrastructure, our emphasis is on maximising the security and stability of the network," he said.

The service supplied to Wesfarmers would include high-level reporting, analysis and recommendation tools, NetStar said.
