NetStar Australia has secured a contract from the City of Melbourne Council to deploy and support a converged IP network across five council sites, including the new Swanston Street building. NetStar will design, procure and integrate the network and provide support services through its global network centre for the next three years. The five sites will be fully deployed by June 2006.

More than 2,000 converged network ports and more than 1,000 large screen IP handsets will be installed across the Council’s four CBD sites. Three IPFX integrated call centres are also being implemented. The network is based on Cisco hardware and includes multiple Cisco Call Managers, Catalyst 6500 and 4500 switches with 3560 edge switches.
